It provides practical guidance on metadata management, bibliometrics, and altmetrics, emphasizing tools and plugins available within Open Journal Systems (OJS) as well as services from Crossref, PlumX, Altmetric, Scopus, and Web of Science.

How to use the material

• Step 1: Understand metadata – Learn what metadata is, why it matters in academic publishing, and how accurate metadata ensures your journal content is discoverable, properly indexed, and correctly cited.

• Step 2: Apply metadata standards – Follow guidance for structuring metadata according to Crossref and OpenAIRE recommendations, including mandatory, recommended, and optional elements.

• Step 3: Use OJS plugins – Explore practical tools to enrich metadata, including DOI, Funding, ORCID, OpenAIRE, ROR, and Context Enhancer plugins, as well as support for conference publishing.
